music: Jens Lekman

wow. okay.
so the other day i was on last.fm, and i looked at the "recommended artists" and noticed a name that i had never heard of. jens lekman. so "hmm", i said. "jens, that is an interesting name." i quickly looked him up on itunes and realized that something had been missing from my life all of this time! jens is an amazing singer, is voice is nice and deep, like a crooners.he first started singing under a pseudonym "rocky dennis"; and he now has several songs about leavig his the pseudonym behind. the song that is playing on my page "a sweet summer's night on hammer-hill" just makes me want to dance all over the place! also you all should check out "black cab" which is equally amazing, and you can hear the crowd requesting on the track on the page (at the end) what is even crazier is that after i had been listening to him, i found out that he was swedish. and "helllo" i am currently obsessed with the country of sweden, remember? craziness. some the lyrics are so funny, that i can't help but laughing, even though his voice is so dead serious. for example in "f-word"the chours is "f-word, f-word, pardon my french, that's BS, BS" seriously, they don't say the actual words. i got "oh you're so silent jens" and i suggest you do too!@

*for those who enjoy: sondre lerche, clap your hands say yeah
*great for: dancing in your room, texting your friends in bed, sewing
*my favorites: "A Sweet Summer's Night on Hammer Hill", "Black Cab", "Julie" (remix), "Maple Leaves"
*favorite line: " 'oh you're so silent jens', maybe i am, maybe i am" from, "Black Cab"

music: Elvis Perkins

When listening to Elvis for the first time, you might think "man this guy is seriously depressed" (for real, one of his parents died from AIDs related pnemonia and the other from the September 11th attacks)but by the time May Day! comes around get excited because your view will change (because May Day! is just so poppy and exciting). Elvis Perkins is an up-and coming folk singer/songwriter who has recenlty relased a debut album entitled Ash Wednesday. I first heard of Elvis while browsing an issue of RollingStone that came in the mail a while back, and I was interested not only because his album recieved a rave review from the magazine, but also because of his name, I mean there is Elvis Costello, but how much closer can an artist get to the king himself? Perkins, Presley.... Okay well yeah.
So I bought the album after I fell in love with While You Were Sleeping, about a minute into the song you'll think "wow, this song is so good i can't get enough of it!" then you'll look at the time and see that you are not even half-way through the song (it's 6 minutes long) and get excited.
After purchasing the album I spent some precious time listening and getting to know thw album by listening to it on repeat (okay I admit, I was on a four hour plane ride and they were showing a lame movie). The first thing I did when i got home (from the trip) was to put the song on my space, and i recieved several comments asking who the brilliant singer was. So now everyone will listen to Elvis Perkins! and everyone living near Chicago should go see him at Lollapalooza! and he is coming to San Diego for Street Scene, but I will be partying it up in Storrs, so i will unfortunatly not be able to attend.
I'm sure I will soon be recieveing a letter of gratitude from Elvis himself thanking me for the great favor I have done for him in writing a great review which everyone who is anyone will read! ....HAH.
Also I'm not sure what to make of the Lent referrals (for those who don't know, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, and Good Friday is the last).

*for those who enjoy: Damien Rice, Rufus Wainwright, Wilco.. i guess?
*great for: long car/plane/train/bicycle rides, or lying around the house with nothing to do.
*my favorites: While You Were Sleeping, May Day!, Sleep Sandwich, Good Friday
*here's what your looking for:

random: last night i had this freaky dream where i saw Nicole Kidman sitting in a Cafe, and she looked depressed (i think she misses Tom) so i went in and tried to make her happy. She let me try on her ring that looked like it had grapes on it, and i was surprised it fit me. and then some guy comes over and brings her this work of art she recently completed. It was about her love of mice, i saw that it included a canvas bag of live mice, i was freaking out and asking her if they were really alive. she said they were, and then i felt one on my so i screamed out loud too, because the scream woke me up. Weirder than this is that at the end it was no longer Nicole Kidman, it was Celine Dion. that was probably confusing.

"I Never Said to Love Me Back"

finally, a hit. i mean Albert came to san diego twice before. first, he opened for incubus, you remember? and i was planning on going just to see him, but those crazy insane incubus fans ate up those tickets faster than a box of coacoa-puffs is eaten in my house. the second time is was again planning on attending, but it was a 21+ show. i hate the drinking age. it's not like i was planning on drinking, i just wanted to see albert!
so that is when i received the news that he was coing back for round three baby! tuesday may 22nd = best day this year! there wasn't many people there, probably the least populated concert i have ever attended. but that made it even better! he opened with my favorite song "Everyone Gets a Star" because he knows i love it. as you can see from the photo i was not that far away from him (around 10 feet to his left), and there was this large pillar thing that i was leaning against (most comfortable spot in the venue). during the show he was adorable, some girl right in front of him asked him to touch her hand he said, "i can't reach..." but then he reached out and touched her fingers anyway. also there were a whole bunch of rowdy kids in the middle one was body surfing, and actually got on stage. he took a drink from alberts water and then knocked it on the floor. it took the security a while to figure out what was going on. and albert kept his cool the whole time, he made it seem like he didn't even notice some stranger drinking his water. but after he (the rowdy man) was gone some stage crew people had to come out to clean up the puddle of water. and then another loser decided to copy his loser friend and got on stage as well, the security caught on much quicker this time around. all in all i love albert as much, if not more, than i did before.
also i noticed that albert got a tattoo of the three bunnies seen on his album cover, and on the bass drum. it is on this right wrist.
then there was the opening band, the dead trees. i had never hear dof them or their music before, but i really like them, and i bought their ep after the show. here is a photo of them that i did not take myself, that i did steal from their myspace. i really like their music, you should all check them out, i feel like they will be big. they did a cover of Cry Baby Cry (it's by the beatles on their white album for all of you non-beatles obessesed people) the funny thing is that i like their cover better than the original. too bad they don't have it on their myspace. their drummer was pretty awesome, he got way into it, and was breaking things along the way. he was like putting his whole body into drumming it was great. also the bassist looked me square in the face like 3 times, i was standing right in front of him. and at the end of the show they were the ones selling their stuff. so i bought their ep straight out of the guitarists hands. i love everyone!

also i finally figured out how to post a song that will start playing with the page! yeahyuh

40$?

so i was getting a little hyped up about the upcoming Albert Hammond, Jr. show (he's opening for incubus) so i went online, to check the prices, and i saw that the tickets are...40 BUCKS! um, yeah. dude, seriously. who do they think they are? i went to see death cab for cutie at th same venue and they were only 20. and, no offense to all you incubus lovers, i don't even like them enough to stay and watch them. i would rather leave after albert performs, so that i can buy a shirt without waiting in the longest line ever. but that will not stop me, i am so there.

in other news:
-applying to college is stressful
-i am offically a spring sing costume coordinator
-i got all of the questions wrong on the last pop quiz in AP Stats.
-i am over halfway done with the vest that i am knitting
&
-i'm tired.

regina regina regina

um, so pretty much i don't know why everyone on this planet isn't listening to regina spektor religiously. Her newest album, Begin to Hope, is brilliant. i had heard of her, but my bestest buddy caitlin discovered her, and as it turns out, she is even more obsessed with her than i am myself. my sister, on the other hand, highly dislikes her and even went through the trouble of locking her cd in my glove compartment so that i could not listen to her while driving. i dont know how she does it, but all of her songs are amazing. she is the only one who could pull off some her crazy lyrics, including: "....little bag of cocaine. so who's the girl wearing that dress?"or about "that time when i would only smoke camels"
for those who enjoy: music in general
great for: driving in the car
my favorite tracks: hotel song, fidelity, and samson
**link to fidelity is in mytunes on the side bar
