music: tori amos

tori amos, boys for pele. this came out a while ago, but it is new to me. i was looking through my dad's cd's when i came across it. at first i found it odd, but that's just tori amos for you. at some points she reminds me of bjork (esp. in track 4 professional widow), and some of the lyrics are really out there... "he likes killing you after you're dead, you think i'm a queer, i think you're a queer." yea, i say that's pretty queer alright, but her lyrics are more meaningful than the average top 40er. she's a real musician whose great work i happened to find lying around my house, like a treasure waiting for me. i have another of hers i found, little earthquakes, but i can't bring myself to listen to it, i'm afraid it won't be as good as this one.

*for those who enjoy, bjork, ani difranco, pat benatar
*great for, mourning your late goldfish, or your short-lived "A" in biology. i feel your pain.
*my favorite tracks, horses, hello mr. zebra, hey jupiter

  1. Just read your blog - love it! Link me yeah??

You sound just like me: californian, loves Lloyd Dobler, the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime, fashionista, huge music lover.. <3<3

  2. Thanks for the comment!

Actually, I LOVE Andy Warhol, David Sedaris, Death Cab for Cutie, and Damien Rice. =P

I noticed your post on Broken Social Scene -- ironically, I first found out about both Damien Rice and Broken Social Scene, of all places, on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. When I watched both of those episodes it was one of those panicky moments, like, "OH-MY-GOD, I NEED A PEN AND PAPER!" because I loved the sound of both Damien Rice and Broken Social Scene so much. I do kind of resent having heard Broken Social Scene now that they're becoming more mainstream, but, hey, I guess that's the guilt I get for hanging out with music elitists. =)

You've got a great start to your blog. Fashion and music are two of my favorite things.

    P.S.
Have you heard of Of Montreal?
